Ruth M. Bloom, 83, of Freeport, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Presence St. Joseph Nursing Home.
Born November 5, 1930 in Oak Park she was the daughter of Burt A. and Mardell M. (Roan) Bowlby.
She married Reverend Gustav Bloom September 1, 1951 in Downers Grove and he died October 11, 2005.
Ruth served as a secretary for Center School in Freeport retiring in 1993.
She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ where her husband had served as minister of the church from 1963 through 1974.
Surviving are her daughter Margretha A. Capponi of Rockford; her son Dr. Steven M. Bloom of Milton, Wisconsin; grandchildren Zachariah Bloom, Christopher Bloom, Katherine Bloom, Margaret Bloom, Alexander Capponi, Andrew Capponi and Kendra Capponi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at Bethany United Church of Christ with Pastor Ted Michalsen officiating.
Interment of her cremated remains will be the in the Salem Cemetery in Lena.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Bethany United Church of Christ.
