Obituary

Ruth Marjorie Carus

Ruth Marjorie Carus, 90, of Lena, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Stephenson Nursing Home.

She was born April 17th, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, and she was a graduate of Proviso Township High School. She attended Elmhurst College where she met her husband, Theodore. After they got married they moved out to the East Coast where she worked in banking, while Theodore worked at the Coast Guard Academy teaching Chemistry and Mathematics. They then moved back to Chicago suburbs and settled down in Lena where they started to grow their family. While in Lena, Ruth worked as a nurse in many different departments, OB and Psychiatric and spent a majority of her time in home health care. Ruth finished her career working as an RN in the Stephenson Nursing Home in the Alzheimer's unit. She retired at the age of 73.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She enjoyed reading and was an avid member of the church choir and Freeport Choral Society. Ruth donated many years to FACC of Freeport and assisted in lots of rescue work for Newfoundland dogs. She loved being outdoors working on her farm with her beloved animals and spent many hours in her flower garden. Ruth was a member of Saint Johns Church and as the years progressed she attended church on Sundays at First United Methodist Church of Freeport IL. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and simply adored her great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her children, Terry (Latricia) Carus of Lena, and Laurel (Randy) Leisson of Monroe, Wi. From her children she had six grandchildren; Megan (Dillon) Champion, Nyiona Davis, Tyree Davis, Alex Carus, Maria Kempthorn and Keith Liesen; four great-grandchildren: Dylon, Olivia, Madilynn and Addison. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Boss.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 27, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Freeport, Illinois, with Pastor Natarsha Gardner officiating.
