Obituary

Freeport- Ruth H. Grandstrand, 89, of Freeport died Sunday April 24, 2005 at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center. Born January 28, 1916 she was the daughter of Furman and Edna (Paulson) Hawkinson. Was a graduate of Bethesda Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Paul in 1937 and from Post Graduate in nursing from University of Minnesota in 1939. On August 28, 1943 she married Clifford Grandstrand who preceded her in death in September 1977.
After moving to Freeport in 1985 she joined Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She was a Second Lieutenant in the Minnesota Home Guard, past President of the Business & Professional Women League of the YWCA, Past President of the Concordia Society at Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Young at Heart club at the church. She was in the Who's Who of American nursing 1991 & Who's Who in Community Service in 1992 and in the 1993 Mid West Edition of Who's Who and a Member of the Highland Community College Literacy program from 1991-93, and RSVP.
She is survived by one son Mark (Cheryll) Grandstrand of Freeport and family Philip, Peter, Jonathan Grandstrand, Michelle Mollner and Tony (Judy) Mollner; one daughter Lois (Stuart) Luedtke of Freeport and family Jessica, Benjamin and Rebekah Luedtke; and one sister Marian (Masaharu) Ano of Gig Harbor, WA. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, 2 Daughters, 1 granddaughter and 1 brother.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday April 30, 2005 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dr. Willis Schwitchenberg officiating.
Friends may greet the family from 9:30 am Saturday until the time of the service.
Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of the cremated remains will be held at the Chisago Lakes Hillside Cemetery in Center City, Minnesota.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
