Freeport-Ruth E. Ketelhut, 90, of Freeport, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 13, 2007. She died at the Lena Living Center in Lena where she had been admitted for less than 24 hours.
Born March 4, 1916 in Oneida, Iowa she was the daughter of Gotliob and Lauretta (Wendling) Heiserman. She married Harold Ketelhut June 6, 1935 and he died May 27, 1998.
Her memberships included, Immanuel Lutheran Church and their Fidelis Circle, and Lancaster Homemakers Extension Club.
Ruth enjoyed sewing with her friends, reading, puzzles, and bird watching.
The joy of her life was cooking for and taking care of her family.
Ruth always said that "Roger Ketelhut was her favorite brother in-law".
She loved having her grandchildren stopping by everyday. Whether it was Lillian and Sam helping her eat candy or Angie checking in on her it was all appreciated very much.
She was especially grateful to her family, Mark, Ben, Don, Becky, and Jim for being there in her final days.
Surviving is her daughter, Paulette (Mark) Bamberg of Freeport; two sons, James (Pat) Ketelhut of Lena and Donald (Carolyn) Ketelhut of San Diego, CA; 15 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Judith Garriott; 4 infant siblings; 6 sisters; and 6 brothers.
Funeral service will be Friday 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend Willis R. Schwichtenberg officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday 12 noon until time of service at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church.
