Freeport
Ruth J. Rockey, widow of Dr. Victor Rockey, Freeport died May 19, 2015 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. She was a retired Registered Nurse having received her degree from Freeport Memorial Hospital in 1940. She actively supported her husband, Dr. Rockey, in his medical-surgical practice for a number of years as X ray and office nurse. She was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Tau Alpha Circle, and Women's Fellowship. She served on the board of the Stephenson County chapter of the American Cancer Society for many years and was a member of Stephenson County Homemakers, Civic Garden Club of Freeport, Freeport Area Church Cooperative, Ladies of the Elks, Blackhawk Embroidery Guild, Stephenson County Medical Auxiliary, Illinois Medical Auxiliary, and a Hospice volunteer.
She was born November 21, 1919 in Buckeye Township, daughter of Ray J. Folgate and Grace M. (Frank) Folgate and married to Dr. Victor V. Rockey on October 27, 1948 in Buckeye Township.
Surviving are a son, David (Debra) of Freeport, step-son Dr. Robert L. (Linda) Rockey of Freeport, and a step-daughter, Mrs. LaMoine (Rose Marie) Moll of Shannon, two grandsons, Robert F. (Sara) Rockey of Dallas, TX, Randall (Stephanie) Rockey of Cody, WY, four step grand-daughters, Anne (Brian) Hopkins, Rebekah (Scott) Cawley, Rachel (Andy) Staats, Kristine Steinhagen, four step grandsons, Christopher Rockey, David Moll, Steven Hartman and Brian Steinhagen, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Jean Shippy and Carol Metz, and three brothers, Harold Folgate, Donald Folgate, and Lawrence Folgate.
Memorials have been established for St. John's United Church of Christ and the American Cancer Society.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 23, 2015, at St. John United Church of Christ.
There will be a visitation 12 noon until time of service at the Church on Saturday, May 23, 2015.
