Sandra Kilian Michael, 75, of Eleroy died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Presence St. Joseph Home in Freeport after a courageous 5-1/2 year battle with colon cancer. Born in rural Stephenson County she was the daughter of Dale and Josephine (Kilian) Gross. She graduated from Orangeville High School in 1957 and was the 1957 Stephenson County Dairy Princess. She graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1960. On August 21, 1960 she and LaVerne Michael were united in marriage at Grace Evangelical Church in Orangeville. She worked as an RN at St. Francis Hospital, Freeport Memorial Hospital, Lena Continental Manor, FHN, and retired from Dr. Sharelis's office. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where she would occasionally play the flute. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Stephenson County Home Extension, Chapter C2 Gold Wing Road Riders. She bowled for many years in Lena and was an excellent seamstress making many bridal gowns. She took great pleasure in making dresses for her granddaughters. Surviving are her husband LaVerne of Eleroy, son Todd (Inger) Michael of West Salem, WI; daughter Michele (Dr. David) Kapp of Perryville, MO; seven grandchildren Rebecca and Everett Michael, Joel (Emily Cissell) Kapp, Alyssa (Justin Breig) Kapp, Faith, Sara and Jacob Kapp; two sisters Beth Ann Faust of Loves Park, Beverley Miller of Brown Deer, WI; many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant grandson. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. at the Salem United Church of Christ, Lena in rural Eleroy. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Salem United Church of Christ with Reverend Randal Nicholas and Reverend William Blomberg officiating. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial has been established in her name.
