Freeport
Sarah (Sally) Dupee, 100, of Freeport, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Parkview Home under the care of FHN Hospice.
Born February 6, 1910 in Earlville, Illinois she was the daughter of John A. and Hope (Barnard) Dupee.
She attended Earlville schools until 1926 when her family moved to Freeport. She graduated from Freeport High School and received her Bachelor's Degree from Beloit College. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in 1933 while at Beloit.
Sally worked as a case aide for Stephenson County Emergency Relief Commission, then as case worker in the office of the Freeport Township Supervisor. She became superintendent of Carroll county Department of Public Aid in 1945, continuing until 1957. She returned to Freeport to serve as executive director of the YWCA. Sally remained in that position until retirement in 1975.
Her affiliations included: First Presbyterian Church (Now United Presbyterian Church) and its Women's association; YWCA; and the former B&P League of the YWCA; Freeport Shakespeare Society; 20th century Book club; Stephenson County Historical Society; Freeport Arts Center; Winneshiek Players; and P.E.O.
Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth (William P.) Ferry of Pewaukee, Wisconsin and Mary (Joseph L.) Ousley of Marshfield, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, John, Jr., Robert, and David Dupee and 1 niece, Deborah Dupee.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be, October 2, 2010, 1 p.m., at Parkview Home.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for Highland Community College Foundation and Parkview Home.
