Sherman H.L. Folgate, 76, of Freeport, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at his home.
Born September 17, 1935 in Long Lake, Wisconsin he was the son of Theron K. and Virginia (Hess) Folgate. He married Emma A. Marassa February 14, 1953.
Sherman worked for Micro Switch Company and then worked for Newell Companies retiring as a building maintenance supervisor.
His memberships included, Excelsior Masonic Lodge No. 97 of which he was a Past Master, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Freeport, Tebala Shrine of Rockford, White Shrine Capernaum No 4, Freeport Chapter Eastern Star No. 303, Stephenson County Antique Engine Club, McConnell Historical Society, and Honorary Life member of McConnell Fire Department.
Sherman loved his family. He enjoyed helping others selflessly, spending time with his friends, fishing on the Wisconsin River with these friends and the weekends spent in Sauk City, Wisconsin.
Surviving are his wife, Emma of Freeport; 1 daughter, Cynthia (special friend, Edward Raab) Sorn of Freeport; 1 son, Barry (Victoria) Folgate Sr. of Freeport; 1 brother, Lynn (Sheryl) Folgate of Freeport; 5 grandchildren, Michael (Melani) Guentherman of Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin, Desiree (Brian) Ingram of Bedford, Virginia, Anna Marie (special friend, Sarah Todd) Folgate of Freeport, Amy Louis (Dan) Fager of Forreston, and Barry Lee (Angela) Folgate Jr. of Freeport; 6 great grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Guentherman, Andrea Ingram, Leah Folgate, Bradlee Fager, and Harlan Folgate; 1 uncle, Don Hess of Freeport; 2 aunts, Marian Folgate of Freeport and Anita Hess Lausch of Cedarville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Peggy Ault and Nichole Book; and his stepmother, Gloria Bendick Folgate.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Walker Mortuary. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 8 p.m. all on Friday evening.
Following the service cremation rites will be accorded and his cremated remains will be buried in the Silent Hill Cemetery, McConnell, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Building Fund at the Freeport Masonic Temple.
