Freeport – Shirley A. (Dexter) Mills, 89 of Freeport went to the Lord on January 2, 2026 with her family at her side.  She was born in Lena on February 8, 1936 to Charles and Leola (Hayes) Simmons.  Shirley lived her entire life in the Lena, Dakota and Freeport area. She worked 36 years at Micro Switch in Freeport.  She was a member of the Frist Free Methodist Church.

After being married to Leonard Dexter for 51 years, he passed away in 2012. She then married Delmar Mills on July 17, 2016.  Surviving are her husband, one daughter Vicki (Kevin) Seeman, one son, Gary Helbling of Pensacola Florida and one son, Steve (DeAnne) Danville, VA.  She also has a special niece, Debra Davenport of Metropolis, IL.

Her legacy also includes 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Preceding her in death are her parents, her first husband and one brother, Gene Dieterich, a sister, Ruth Riegger and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at 10am at Walker Mortuary.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 11am also at Walker Mortuary.  Her final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
