Shirley M. Fritzenmeier, 98 of Freeport passed away at Manor Court Nursing Center of Freeport on Sunday, May 11, 2025. She was the daughter of Edward and Allie (Clark) Feiler and was born in Muscoda, WI on March 9, 1927, the youngest of nine children. On Feb 19, 1955 Shirley and Edwin (Ed) Fritzenmeier were married in Rockford, by the late Rev. Edwin Arends. Her husband passed away on January 21, 1989.
Shirley worked at Furst-McNess CO., Sieg-Illinois Auto Parts, Vanco PRinters and Micro Switch, where she retired in 1986. Later, after her husband's death, she worked part-time as a care person. She was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ since 1949, a former member of the church choir for 40 years, the Sweet Adelines, Inc., (of which her husband was the first director). The Low Tones Quartet, and the Harmonettes. She was also a former member of the Freeport Woman's Club and the Mary-Martha Circle. She also loved to travel, attend musicals and plays, playing cards and doing crafts.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, four sisters and a special sister-in-law, Dolores Heilman.
There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, May 24th at 10am at the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, officiated by Pastor Hank Fairman of United Church of Christ, Freeport. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com
