Obituary

Shirley Annette Johnson, age 94 of Freeport, IL, moved to her new home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 12, 2017. She was born on May 4, 1923 in Freeport to the late Hiram and Elizabeth (Zeisig) Morrow. On January 27, 1990 she married George (Al) Johnson in Freeport.
She was a graduate of Freeport High School with the class of 1941 and Chicago Moody Bible Institute Music Course in 1946. Gospel music was her life and upon graduation she was devoted her life to church choir work having directed choirs in Chicago, Denver as well as Freeport for a number of years.
She formerly worked at Micro Switch and Newell Company and ended her working career as an executive Secretary for Furst-McNess Company, retiring after 20 years in 1989.
She was a member of First Church of the Open Bible serving in musical areas of the church. After retirement she was a member of the JOY singers for 9 1/2 years, a volunteer for the Title 1 program at Lincoln Douglas School, a volunteer at the Faith Life Fellowship and Gospel Outreach Food Banks and crocheted baby hats for the newborn babies at FHN.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Al; one daughter, Ruth S. (William) McNay of Tucson, AZ as well as a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roland A. (Jeannette) Morrow and Merle E. (Dorothy) Morrow. Two Sisters and two Brothers-in-Law, Ralph (Phyllis) Morrison and Rodger (Joanne) Hainke.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at First Church of the Open Bible on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 from 9:30 am - 11:00am. The funeral service will be held at First Church of the Open Bible on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Burliss Parker officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the First Church of the Open Bible in Freeport, IL
