Shirley I. Nott, 86 of rural Dakota died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at her home. She was born October 27, 1925 in Council Hill, IL the daughter of Lester and Eliza (Travis) Smart.
Shirley graduated Valedictorian of her class from New Diggings High School in New Diggings, WI and then taught all eight grades in a one room school house at Council Hill, IL. On August 20, 1950 she and Robert F. Nott were united in marriage, he preceded her in death in October of 2005. They farmed in the Dakota area during their married life. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, her cats, spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Dakota/Rock Grove United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday school at Rock Grove United Methodist Church for 27 years.
Surviving are her children, Linda Nott of Dakota, one son Allan Nott of Dakota, Virginia "Ginny" (Dan) Dietmeier of Durand; two grandchildren Derek (BoKaye) Dietmeier of Bloomington, IN, Lindsay Dietmeier of Durand; caregiver Lillie Williams of Freeport; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, sister Marieta Pope and brother at infancy.
