Cedarville-Steve P. Carroll, 52, of Cedarville, a Stephenson County Sheriff's Correctional officer who was assigned as bailiff at the Stephenson County Court House, died Friday, April 23, 2004 while on duty.
Born February 15, 1952 in Freeport he was the son of Gene and Hyla (Geiseman) Carroll. He married Becky L. Merkel Peters February 16, 1980.
A Navy Vietnam veteran he was on the USS Fresno and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
A Harley Davidson enthusiast he lived to ride his motorcycle. His memberships included HOG and ABATE motorcycle organizations, V-ROD and SR/T-forums.
Surviving are his wife, Becky of Cedarville; son, Tim Carroll; daughters, Traci Gallegos of Joliet, Cheryl (Brian Andre) Peters and Mandy (Joe Loescher) Peters both of Cedarville; grandchildren, Nikki and Tony Gallegos of Joliet, Hannah Jo Loescher of Cedarville, and Brianna Toepfer of Freeport; brother, Bill (Cindy) Carroll of Freeport; sister, Sandy Carroll of Freeport.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 1:30 p.m. at Cedarville Emmanuel Evangelical Congregational Church with Reverend Jack Ward officiating. Following the service cremation rites will be accorded and internment of his cremated remains will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Friends may call Monday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
All bikes are welcome at both the funeral service and visitation.
A memorial ride will be announced at a future date.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
