Freeport-Sylvia A. Bruce, 71, of Freeport, died Friday, December 30, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born June 3, 1934 in Hickory, Mississippi she was the daughter of George and Ida (Dyess) Youngblood. She married Harold E. Bruce Sr. December 1, 1956.
She worked at Micro Switch and then Economy Insurance from which she retired.
She was a member of St. James C M E Church and active in the Senior Choir. She was a member of Freedom of Residence. Sylvia enjoyed visiting the residence of the local nursing homes.
Surviving is her husband, Harold of Freeport; three sons, Harold D. (Tamia) Bruce Jr. of San Diego, Harry O. (Lisa) Bruce of Freeport, and Royce R. Bruce of Racine, Wisconsin; three daughters, Regina A. (Harris) Hale of Bolingbrook, Denita A. Bruce of Honolulu, Hawaii, Karressa A. Bruce of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Cornie Youngblood of Rockford; five sisters, Nannie Edison and Ida Mae Turner both of Freeport, Francis McAlpine of Meridian, Mississippi, Ruby (Sammy) Davis and Virginia Lyons both of Louisiana 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a host of nieces; nephews; and cousins;her special friend, Flora Newton of Freeport; and her many friends throughout the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Melvin Shipp; one granddaughter; Gynequia Hale; seven brothers; and 1 sister.
Funeral service will be Friday 1 p.m. at St. James C M E Church with Reverend Jeremiah J.I. Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Friday 9 a.m. until time of service at the St. James C M E Church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.
