Sylvia Louise (Luke) Jones passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025.
She was born on June 13th, 1941, to Charles C. Luke and Valeria S. (Phillips) Luke of Lena, IL. Sylvia graduated from Lena - Winslow High School in 1959 and married the love of her life, Larry L. Jones, on May 7th, 1960.
Larry and Sylvia were founding members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport, where she dedicated her time as a church secretary, council member, and Sunday school teacher. She also worked for Firestone Tire,Trebor Enterprises, and she had a long and fulfilling career, working as office manager at Heavy Equipment Services (Helm Group) for over 30 years.
Sylvia was an active member of the ABWA Lamplighter Chapter and Quota Club, where she found joy in connection and service. She had a deep love for reading, and traveling, and cherished her time spent on girls' weekends and shopping trips. One of her greatest joys was celebrating her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always bringing smiles to their faces with thoughtful birthday and Christmas gifts. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone around her.
Sylvia is survived by her loving husband, Larry, and her devoted daughters, Jodie (Randy) Skeel and Julie (Dave) Smith. She is also survived by her brothers, Dennis Luke and Arnold Luke, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Laramie (Victoria) Brown, Shana Brown, Joshua (Crystal) Brown, Melissa (Tony) Bradbury, Randy Skeel Jr., Katie (Mike) DeBord, Logan (Damien) Shearer, Breanna (Carl) Mann, and Jacob Smith. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with eighteen great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy. Sylvia's kindness and love extended to her dear friends Audrey Last, Lynn Ackerman, Nancy Baker, and Suzie Gale. Her legacy of love, generosity, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved daughter, Jamie (Jones) Brown.
A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at Prince of Peace Church on Friday, February 7th, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.
