Freeport
Theda M. Snively, 86, of Freeport, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Lena Living Center in Lena.
Born June 30, 1925, in Pearl City she was the daughter of Ferd and Luva (Aurand) Phillips. She married Robert Haas in 1945; after a ten year marriage, they divorced. She married Harry Snively on February 4, 1956, and he died July 30, 2007.
She worked at Burgess, Struccto, Micro Switch and One Hour Martinizing, and ultimately became a farm wife when she married Harry. In 1962, she and her husband left the farm and developed wanderlust. Over the next years they lived in Missouri, Arizona, Oregon, and Texas. In 1998, they returned to the local area.
During their travels, Theda remained active -- learning to swim, receiving her GED, enrolling in computer classes, working at the Highland Community College Library, and in 1982, being ordained a minister.
Surviving are her daughters, Carolyn Stewart of Lena and Martha Haas of Cairo, Egypt; four grandchildren, Michelle (James) Anderson of Houston, TX, Kim Sparks of Katy, TX, Craig (Sarah) Stewart of Monona, WI, Shannon (Bryan) Fong of Willow Brook; eight great grandchildren Jesse, Craig, Joshua, Isaac, Alyssa, Aidan, Kate, and Lucas; several nieces and nephews; 1 sister, Carol (Irvin) Hornung of Freeport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and two brothers.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be a gathering of family and friends beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2011, followed by a memorial service at 5:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established.
