Thelma Mae Kaufman, 89, of Independence Village and Loyalton of Rockford, formerly of Freeport, died Monday, June 14, 2010 at her daughter's home in Rockford.
Born March 31, 1921 on a farm in Mt. Carroll she was the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Tarner) Kingery. She married Elmer L. Kaufman August 1, 1969 and he died in 1998.
Surviving are her son, Paul (Terri) Lindstrom of Leaf River; her daughter, Linda (Bob) Quincy of Rockford; 2 sisters, Rose (Marvin) Lindstrom and June Kingery of Lanark; step-children, Steve (Nancy) Kaufman of Galesburg, Carol (Roger) Port of Lanark, Shirley Hedman of Minneapolis, MN, and Connie (Larry) Kaiser of Freeport.
Grandchildren, Todd (Tracy) Lindstrom of Palmer, Alaska, Heidi (Scott) Regez of Davis, Christy (Kevin) Merck of Davenport, IA, Robert Lindstrom of Gilbert, AZ, Mary Clark of Rockford, Paul D Lindstrom of Rockton, Patricia Lindstrom of Freeport, and Jodi (Michael) Golembiewski of DeKalb.
16 great grandchildren, Steven Amanda, Trey, Summer, Abby, Gwyn, Tanner, Leisl, Brock, Gretta, Garrett, Jeremey, Brent, Chelsea, Dominic, and Marissa; 1 great great grandchild, Gavin.
Special family, Karen and Keith Knockel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons Ted and Larry; step-daughter, Sharon; great granddaughter, Brianna; sister, Marge; and brothers, Merle and Andy.
After leaving the farm Thelma sold Tupperware, worked at Spurgeons where she also did alterations, and Economy Insurance.
She was a member of Church of the Brethren in Cherry Grove, Freeport and Rockford. She was on numerous committees, women fellowships, and enjoyed making noodles for the bazaar.
Her memberships included Bowling League at Shannon Lanes with her sisters, and Stephenson County Home Extension.
She enjoyed fishing in Fremont and Hayward. She traveled around the United States in their motor home. Through their travels they met many friends from one coast to the other and kept in contact with them through the years. Thelma enjoyed Bingo and playing cards, especially Hand and Foot.
Funeral service will be Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport
There will be a visitation Thursday 9 a.m. until time of service at the Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for VNA Hospice, 4223 E. State St. Rockford, Il 61108.
