IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Theodore "Ted"
Bach
September 4, 1943 – May 28, 2025
Theodore "Ted" Bach passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Ted was born in Freeport, IL on September 4, 1943 to Joseph and Alfreda Bach. Known as Uncle Ted to most of his family, he was a steady and reliable presence. His quiet strength and guidance shaped those around him, leaving a lasting impact.
He attended Aquin High School and graduated in 1961. He then joined the United States Army and served two deployments to Vietnam, from 1963-1966, and again from 1968-1969. He later served in the Army National Guard until his retirement in 1986. Ted's military career was a source of pride for him, and he was very well liked by his fellow troops and leaders. Uncle Ted inspired several younger family members to join the military, including his nephews Dan, Lance, and Mark, and his great-nieces Cassie and Maggie. Mark described Ted as a "soldier's leader," and Cassie remembers his advice of "always take care of your people." We are grateful for his sacrifice and service.
Ted also worked for the Freeport Township as Deputy Supervisor for decades.
Ted is survived by his sister, Sheila Hooper (North Riverside, IL), and many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alfreda Bach; his siblings Nicholas Bach, Patricia Steele, and Michael Bach; his brother-in-law Robert Steele; his sister-in-law Kay Bach; two nephews, Dan Steele and Lance Hooper; and one great-nephew, Preston Steele-Alston.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either the Freeport Friends Forever Humane Society, or a veterans' service agency of your choosing. If you'd like to send a card, please send c/o Trisha Hooper, 6828 N Lakewood Ave, #3, Chicago, IL 60626.
