Thomas H. Spelman, 72, of Durand passed away Thursday August 18, 2011 at his home. Born May 15, 1939 in Rockford, he was the son of Leo and Allene (Leech) Spelman. He married Jill Linney on August 22, 1964 in Beloit, WI. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He owned Spelman Sunoco for many years prior to owning T&S trucking. He was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Durand Fire Department, a member of the Durand American Legion Gold Star Post 676 and Durand VFW. He was an avid NASCAR and Bears fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife Jill of Durand; one son Patrick (Angela) Spelman of Peru; two daughters Amy (Brad Bainter) Spelman of Macomb, Jody (Troy) Evans of Lake Orion, MI; six grandchildren Chelsea, Dustin , Mackenzie, Trent, Torie, and Breslyn; one brother James Spelman of Fenton, MI; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Funeral mass will be 10:00 am Monday, August 22, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Durand with Msgr. Eric Barr officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1pm until 4pm at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Dakota with a scripture service at 3:30 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded.
