Veneta Marie Agney, a lifelong resident of Freeport, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born April 30, 1943, to Kenneth Earl Agney andInez Marie (Molter) Agney, she was a person of steady faith and dedication to family, friends, church, and the Freeport community which she was proud to call home.

Veneta attended Henny Grade School and graduated from Freeport High School in1961. She later earned an associate degree in business administration from Highland Community College. She was employed by Honeywell, working in the Micro Switch Production Control division until her retirement.

Her church was a cornerstone of her life. As a lifelong member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Veneta was deeply committed, sharing her time as a Sunday school teacher, mission committee chairperson, and member of the Fidelia Circle, choir, and condolence committee. Veneta found enjoyment in quiet pastimes like working puzzles and reading fiction novels, but she was happiest when tending to her flower garden. For many years, she also served as an Avon representative, sharing her favorite products and treasures with those close to her. She was an avid collector of Hummel figurines and enjoyed working with ceramics. She also loved to travel with her special friend of 40 years, Marilyn Janssen. Together, they explored destinations across the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as trips throughout Europe and Central America.

Veneta was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Earl Agney and Inez Marie Agney; many beloved aunts, uncles, and relatives; and her special friend, Marilyn Janssen. She is survived by her half-brother, Orrin Lee Agney of Galax, Virginia; her cousin, Julie Molter (Lee Kanne) of Skokie, Illinois; and many dear ones whose companionship meant so much to her, especially longtime neighbors and friends, the Hamer family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Bethany United Church of Christ, 2341 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, IL 61032, Wayne Fisher officiating.
