Verda B. Meinert, 90, of Freeport, passed away Tuesday, June 10 at Liberty Village. Verda was born December 18, 1923 in rural Davis, the daughter of Clarence and Rebecca (Tielkemeier) Meinert.
Verda was employed by Freeport Memorial Hospital food services from 1965 until 1992. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna. Verda enjoyed gardening and raising roses and violets, needlepoint, crocheting and knitting. She gave countless hours volunteering and was a member of Highland's RSVP quilting group.
Survivors include her brother, Harold Meinert of Rock City, her sister, Ruth (Robert) Stilson, of Englewood, Florida, nephews Robert (Nancy) Toelke, Duane Toelke, both of Davis, Larry Toelke of Freeport, Robert (Marybeth) Stilson of Roscoe, nieces Susan (Dale) Fiedler of Freeburg, Linda Toelke of Chicago, Marlisa (Michael) Gunderson of Davis, and numerous great and great-grand nieces and nephews. Verda is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Irene Toelke.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna with Reverend Scott Naevestad officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be at the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum. A memorial has been established in her memory for the Church and FHN Memorial Hospice.
