Vernon A. DeWall, 86, of Freeport, formerly of Shannon, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport.
Born December 8, 1924 in Shannon he was the son of Arthur M. DeWall and Esther (Hinders) DeWall.
Vernon farmed in the Shannon area for several years and was employed by National Lock in Rockford for 17 years.
He was caretaker and assistant to his mother for many years.
Surviving are his daughter, Viola (Michael) DeWall of Richmond, California; his son, Thomas DeWall of Rockford; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Faye) DeWall of Bethalto, Illinois and Loren (Mary Lou) DeWall of Leesburg, Florida; and his grandson, Nathanial DeWall of Richmond, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services and internment of his cremated remains will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2011 in the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with Reverend Donna Gericke of Prairie Dell Presbyterian Church officiating.
A memorial has been established.
