Voncile "Shine" Modlinger, age 98 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Manor Court in Freeport. She was born April 12, 1925 in Claiborne, OH; the daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie (Vuhnalek) Kirby. She graduated from high school in Jacksonville, FL and attended college in Aurora, IL. Voncile married Roy Modlinger on July 4, 1949 in Aurora, IL; he passed on May 17, 2005.

She worked for Newell Corp. for 18 years, retiring in the late 90's. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Freeport where she was active in the United Methodist Women and Chairman of the Quilting Association. She loved her church and had a strong faith. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and gardening. She had a lovely personality and saw the good in everyone.

She is survived by her son, Joe Modlinger of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Ben (Cari) Modlinger of Forreston, IL and Lindsey (Thomas) Broadway of Freeport; and grandchildren: Joseph & Emalee Modlinger and Owen, Tyler, Hayden, Chase, & Daniel Broadway. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; daughter, Janet Modlinger; and sister, Lyril Reas.
