Freeport – Walter M. Hoffman, 79 of Freeport passed away on July 13, 2020 at his home. Born August 25, 1942 in Pekin, Il to Otis F. and Florence L. (Shay) Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents.  Surviving are two brothers, H. Wayne Hoffman and Wendel K. Hoffman of Delavan, Il and one sister, Rosemary Ann Gordon of Topeka, Kansas, several nephews and nieces and several great nephews and great nieces.

Walter graduated from Delavan Community High School in the class of 1960.  He graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Il with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in physics and math in 1964, and received a Master's Degree in education from Illinois State university in Normal, IL.

Walter taught physics and math at Mt. Morris High School in Mt. Morris, Il for four years and then taught physics and math at Freeport High School retiring in 1992 at the age of 50 years old.

He was a member of the Delavan Baptist Church of Delevan, IL.  Walter was also a member of the Delevan Masonic Lodge No 156 for 57 years joining December of 1963.  He also served as chaplain.  He was a Daul member of the Lena Masonic Lodge No 174 joining in 2004.

Walter served as an advisor of Demolay DAD for the Freeport Demolay for several years, receiving the honorary Legion of Honor.

He was a member of the Valley of Freeport Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.  He served as director of several Scottish Rite Degrees and for the last several years worked with the stage crew.

Walt received the Meritorious Service Award (MSA) June 5, 1992.  He was a member of the Freeport York Rite Bodies serving as secretary and recorder.

Walter was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No 679 in Freeport for 43 years.  He was also a member of the Elks Lodge No 617 for 50 years also in Freeport, IL.

There will be two services.  The first one will be held at the Walker Mortuary in Freeport on August 12, 2022.  Visitation at 6pm with Masonic Services at 7pm.  The second service will be in Delavan, IL on August 20, 2022 at the Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan, Il.  Visitation will be from 10:30am -11:30am with graveside services at the Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan, IL at 12 noon on August 20, 2022.  Lunch will be served at the Presbyterian Church in Delevan, IL.  Family and Friends are invited.
