Wayne R. Bishop, age 86 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL. He was born August 20, 1933; the son of the late Abro and Mary May (Gardner) Bishop. He married Marlene M. (Cox) Phillips on August 3, 1974; she passed on February 1, 2020.
Wayne served in the United States Navy from 1953-1957; Gunner's Mate 3 rd Class, stationed on the USS John Hood. In his younger years he worked for the Freeport Journal Standard. He later worked at Kelly Springfield for 27 years where he enjoyed playing on the company softball team. He also played on a several bowling leagues. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Wayne also enjoyed country music and dancing with his wife. He loved visiting with friends, a good cup of coffee and a doughnut. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his favorite things to do.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra (Jonathan) Green of Freeport, Ann (Kevin) Loughran and Janet (Mike) Wyatt both of British Columbia, Canada; grandchildren, Barry (Becky) Green, Stacie Green, Jared Green, Colleen Loughran, Scott Loughran, Maddy Wyatt, and Tyler Wyatt; great grandchildren, Cierra & Myah Green and Gabrielle Mordick; brother, Donald Bishop of Oregon, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene; brothers, Robert and Carl; and sister, Margaret.
A memorial service with Military Rites will be held on Sunday, August 16 th at 2:30 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport with a visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
