Wayne E. Diddens, Sr., 77, of Freeport, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.
Born November 16, 1931 in Freeport he was the son of Henry and Blanche (Bloyer) Diddens. He married Dixie Marcum May 2, 1954. She died December 24, 2008.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
Wayne's memberships included Trinity United Methodist Church VFW, and the Pipe Fitter's Union.
He was a Pipe Fitter at Stovers for over 25 years.
He enjoyed bowling and rooting for the Cubs and Bears.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Karen G. Kryder of Lena and Peggy J. (John) Rundall of Freeport; 1 son, Wayne E. Diddens Jr. of Freeport; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas Kryder and Joseph Kryder both of Normal, Benjamin Kryder of Lena, Caitlin Kryder of Macomb, Ssgt. Jeremy (Catherine) Rundall of Sumter, S.C., and Courtney (Micah) Wilson of Freeport; 5 great grandchildren, Chloe, Emma, Ryan, Jackson, and Joshua; 3 sisters, Marian Myers, Doris Shain, and Helen Winters all of Freeport; 1 brother, George (Polly) Diddens of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 1 sister, Lois Turner; and 2 brothers, Henry and Raymond Diddens.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Julie Bunt of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
