Wilbur (Willie) S. Mitchell , age 92 of Freeport, IL, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Pearl Pavillion in Freeport. He was born June 12, 1925 in Dakota, IL; the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Maize) Mitchell. Willie married Alice Viel on May 18, 1949; she passed on August 1, 2016.

He had farmed and hauled milk in rural Freeport and later had worked for Sundstrand until retiring. He attended Park Hills Evangelical Free Church of Freeport. He loved puzzles and enjoyed collecting advertising screwdrivers and toy tractors.

Willie is survived by his daughters, Joanne (Jim) Bamberg of Ridott, IL and Joyce (Rick) Giles of Freeport; grandchildren, Kristin (Dan) VanHouse of Minnesota and Allison (Zach) Kluesner of Ridott; three great grandchildren; brother, Everett (Mary) Mitchell of Dakota; and sister, Cecile Nyen of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; grandson, Jason Giles; and sister, Beryl Miller.
