William "Bill" C. Fosler , age 96 of Freeport, IL passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Center surrounded by family. He was born September 7, 1921 to the late Chas and Blanch (Huber) Fosler. He was married to Ruth I. Fosler for over 40 years.
Bill proudly served in the United States Army during WWII where he received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Service Stars with Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal and American Theater Ribbon WWII Victory Medal. After the war he worked for Greenlee Tool in Rockford where he retired from. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved playing cards, whistling and singing. Bill was loved and will be deeply missed by his family and wife.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth I. Fosler of Freeport; his step-children, Gary Simmons, John Simmons, Barbara (Dennis) Ceroni and Todd (Becky) Simmons; his grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his two step children, Susan K. Simmons and Scott E. Simmons; his step daughter-in-law, Christal Simmons; his parents; his four brothers, Dick, Jack, Kenneth and Joe; his two sisters, Lola Mae and Helen; a nephew and a granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in the Chapel of Peace. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established.Visitation
