William L. Grover, 92, a resident of Prairie View Assisted Living in Winnebago, formerly of Freeport, died Tuesday, January 22, 2012, at Swedish American Hospital.
Born May 27, 1920 in Evansville, Indiana he was the son of Cyrus F. and Mitylene (Robinson) Grover. On August 4, 1940 he married Jean Antrim and she died, April 6, 2010.
William was a World War II Army Corps of Engineer veteran.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Golden K Kiwanis.
William is survived by one daughter, Jean (Samuel) Maggio of Rockford; son-in-law William (Lynn) Ackerman of Freeport; five grandchildren Jody (Juan) Licon, Samuel (Jenny) Maggio, Daniel (Angie) Ackerman, Kelly (Christopher) Herbig, Michael (Celinda) Ackerman; seven great grandchildren Juan "Sonny" Licon, Austin Licon, Carmen Maggio, Joshua Ackerman, Benjamin Ackerman, Christopher Herbig and Thomas Herbig.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter Judith Ackerman; and three brothers, John, Donald, and Fredrick Grover.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for FHN Memorial Hospice.
