William Allen “Bill” Janssen, 73, of Lanark, IL, passed away on February 27, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on August 14, 1952, at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Wayne Junior Janssen of Freeport and Marian Lucille (Robertson) Janssen of Gratiot, Wisconsin. He graduated from Dakota High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago and a Master’s Degree in Education from National Louis University. He had a deep appreciation for music and education, a passion that he maintained throughout his life and career.
Bill married his high school sweetheart Susan Marie Kinney on December 27, 1970 in Davis, IL and they were able to recently celebrate 55 years of marriage.
A devoted Christian, Bill’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He lived out his beliefs with humility, kindness, and integrity, seeking to serve others and lead by example in both his family life and his profession. Philippians 4:6–7 was especially meaningful to him: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” These verses reflected the steady trust and quiet peace that characterized his life.
Bill dedicated his professional life to music education, serving faithfully as a band director for nearly 30 years in the Dakota, Durand and Byron school districts. Through his leadership, patience, and commitment to excellence, he influenced countless students, fostering not only musical skill but also discipline, teamwork, and confidence. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his teaching.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Susan, Lanark, IL; his son, Jason (Kristine) Janssen of Groveland, IL; his daughter, Justine (Nate) Davis of Mt. Morris, IL; and his five cherished grandchildren: Kyle and (Kelsey) Janssen of Creve Coeur, IL, Julie Davis of Byron, IL, Brett Janssen of Jamestown, ND, Jacob Davis of Mt. Morris, IL and Brady Davis of Mt. Morris, IL. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Bill will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his dedication to his family, and his lifelong commitment to music and education. He leaves behind a legacy of commitment, love with high expectations, honesty and integrity that will not be forgotten.
