Freeport: Mary Belle Campbell died at the age of 81on Tuesday January 11, 2011. Mary Belle was born on February 22, 1929 to Charles Wilbur and Lula Belle (Rowland) Whitmer of Lanark. As the youngest of 7 children, Mary Belle graduated from Freeport High School in 1947 in the upper 3% of her class. On February 21, 1948 she married Harry Jr. Campbell who was drowned in 1958. During her lifetime, she worked a wide assortment of jobs; she babysat as a teenager and worked with her mother in restaurants washing dishes and peeling potatoes. Mary Belle enjoyed being around people and while living in Los Angeles, she was a cashier for CVS pharmacy and in Freeport, she was rated the number one meter maid from May 1962 through September 1965. She gave 21 years and 3 months to the Honeywell Corporation before retiring in 1986. She loved to travel, read, play bingo and spend time with her family. Mary Belle was a devout Christian and tried to live a Christ-like life. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Howard and Harold Whitmer, four sisters, Dorothy Brooks, Helen Van Buskirk, Virginia Hanna and Margaret Irwin, and her grandson Jason Dubs. She is survived by her daughter Patricia and son-in-law Dan Dubs of Freeport; three sons, Harry Michael and his wife Jan Campbell of Wyoming, MI, Thomas Campbell of Freeport, Mark Campbell and daughter-in-law Debra of Freeport; seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and very special adopted son Tim Outcault of Freeport.
