David A. Daughenbaugh, Sr. 68, of Belvidere, IL died peacefully, Friday afternoon, January 9, 2009 in his home surrounded by his loving family. David was born February 18, 1940 in Freeport, Illinois the son of Glenn F. and Mildred E. (Zopf) Daughenbaugh. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1958 and served our country in the US Army from 1960 until being discharged in 1963, he was stationed in Germany. David worked as a diesel mechanic for Da-Nite from 1967 until a car accident forced his early retirement in 1981. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed working on cars, collecting unusual items, drinking with his buddies in the garage and spending time with his grandchildren whom he dearly loved.
David is survived by his children, Denese (Dwight) Hagan and David A. (Siobain) Daughenbaugh, Jr. both of Belvidere; grandchildren, Nicole and Dustin Hagan, Shawna and Austin Daughenbaugh.
Special thanks to Dale for being Dad's hands and feet and being his best friend and our second dad; for Barb, for her 20 years of helping Dad and to Jeri, for giving Dad the care he deserved and becoming another one of the family. We would have been lost without you.
David is predeceased by his parents.
