Robert J. Maher Sr., 80, of Freeport died Saturday February 4, 2012 at Freeport Rehab and Health Care Center. Born April 18, 1931 in Freeport he was the son of Thomas and Lilas (Wittbecker) Maher. For more than 20 years he was a maintenance supervisor at Economy Insurance and also managed Dun-Rite Janitorial services. Bob's memberships included Freeport Moose Lodge, Freeport Eagle's Club and the Stephenson County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his children Robin (Bob) Koester of Freeport, Robert J. "Jamie" (Lorie) Maher of Elgin, Michael (Joanne) Maher of Apopka, Fl; sister Shirley Houghton of Freeport; sister-in-law Lois Maher of Freeport; one grandchild Hannah Koester; step grandchild Jason (Carrie) Schadewalt and great step grandchild Addison Schadewalt. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Donald Maher, half brother Willard Hiteman, one son Randy Maher and step son Robert Schadewalt.
